Stranger Than Fiction

with the world - six
strange things about myself:

1. I shoot pool left handed although I do everything else right handed. I can't even hit the cue ball when I try to play right handed.

2. I CANNOT under any circumstances fall asleep in bed at night if I have socks on. I can't even analyze this one...but it is not conducive to living in northern Michigan.

3. I rock standardized tests. I just get them. I can read between the lines and I see some kind of rhythm to them that sends me into some altered state of consciousness. The reason this is strange is that I am no genius or idiot savant, but I never studied for the SAT, ACT, LSAT or GMAT but I kicked ass on all of them. But in school and real life I am just an average joe.

4. I had a pet tarantula in college, whose name was Rusty. Rusty was given to me as a high school graduation gift from two little boys I babysat for. Imagine the surprise when I opened the the box (yes, it was wrapped in a box). Rusty traveled with me from place to place for four years until a plumber visited my apartment to unclog a drain and left with a new pet!

5. I can't make coffee. It doesn't matter the pot, the coffee, the water, the instructions...it turns out terrible every time I try. Thank god for coffee shops.

6. I'm not sure there is anyone else who is as terrified of flying as I am - who travels as much as I do. I get physically ill before every flight (usually throw up), I take anxiety meds, I religiously count to 90 in Mississippi's when the wheels leave the ground (because I once read a report a majority of plane crashes happen in the first or last ninety seconds of flight) and I lean in the opposite direction of a turn in flight to help make sure the plane doesn't "tip over". I could go on but I will spare you. The strange thing is that I find myself traveling around the world...go figure. I'm sure I'm quite a sight.

I think these are strange things...I don't know. It is more difficult to judge my own strangeness than I thought it would be.

I just learned three things about you (1, 2 & 5). And it was fun to be reminded of the other three, as well. You are not, however, "just an average joe" by any standards!

Love you!
Sam

p.s. What's all the excitement about today?
