Almost Finished

I know it has taken a while, but I finally
have some kitchen photos for your viewing
pleasure. My intent was to have it BH&G
perfect before posting - until I realized
that was NEVER going to happen. There are
still a few little projects left like glass
in the cabinets and a range hood over the stove,
but we are almost there. Following are the "before
and after" shots, since it has been a while since
you saw the first series:

See the dishwasher, do you see it, do you??!!!

I love my sink, people tried to talk meout of the
"one bowl" sink, but I have no regrets. And it is super
deep. The lobster pot fits in it - no problem.

The new door to the bathroom (which is not yet
finished) is a pocket door, which is a great space
saver. Plus, we no longer have to duck our heads!

I love how this space turned out. Next:

Oops! Martha Stewart wouldn't have left a
crumpled up paper towel on the counter.

Max hates her picture being taken, she always
makes a face!

TA-DA!

Hardhats Required Beyond This Point

Although it has been slow coming, I have finally
solved my camera issues and will be posting some
personal photos again. Following are demolition
phase kitchen photos...stay tuned for the finished
product!

This is a look from the kitchen into the bathroom.

This is from the bathroom into the kitchen. Hello Reggie!

This is what became of our living room during the ordeal.
We are no longer living in this mess..it is finished,
but I can't blow my wad all at once!

Progress Report

No kitchen photos to share because my camera is giving me
fits, but I wanted to share some random thoughts
regarding the remodel.

Every morning I wake up in the same episode of
This Old House (minus the new england accents),
thankfully it is one of my favorite shows. Matt doesn't share
my sentiments. He claims he is allergic to the dust, but I'm
pretty sure he is just allergic to the mess. He and Max have
relocated to the cottage and he is commuting to Traverse City.

Reggie and I are hanging tough. Reggie LOVES the mess and
the guys who come and work on the house. I have never seen
a dog fascinated by power tools before. He hangs with the guys
every morning for about 15 minutes before I leave for work and
he eats them up. When I walked in the kitchen this morning
his little nose was about three inches away from Jeremy, who was
cutting a 2x4 with a circular saw. Reggie's eyes were shut
because of all the dust it was kicking up, but he was
not at all scared of the saw. So funny.

We haven't run into any major problems yet. Electrician began
rewiring today and drywall is slated for Friday. We should be
able to lay tile early next week. Keep your fingers crossed!

I've attached a photo I took of Matt on the slopes a couple
of weeks ago. Only three weeks (give or take) left in
the ski season. It's been a good one. Matt took
home a ton of "gold medals" in his ski league. He says it
doesn't mean anything, but I'm proud of him.

Gotta run!

Out With the Old...

Welcome to my kitchen, may it not make you too queasy.
Matt and I have lived in our house for just over a year now,
and we can't take a minute more of this room. The wrecking
ball arrives tomorrow, so I thought it best to document the
before to truly appreciate the after.

A few notes - our house was built in the late 1800's. It has
been renovated and added on to for the last 70 some years.
The kitchen is not a reflection of the whole house (thank god)
and although we have a few projects ahead of us, this is THE
BIG ONE! Finally, I removed every piece of flare from the
kitchen to distract the eye from its hideousness prior to
these photos.

Shall we?

This is my sink, otherwise known as the death trap. It
is cast iron with a beautiful gold overlay. It eats everything.
I have not even attempted to use any dishes we received
as wedding gifts. Almost every plate we use (of our
shitty "wow our first matching dish set!" collection) is chipped.
We have resorted to using plastic cups. I will not
shed a tear when this sink goes to heaven. You may note
there is not a dishwasher in the kitchen...that too will soon
change. A couple close ups before she retires.

Gotta love that nozzle!

That is clean by the way. As clean as it gets. Now as we
stand at the sink, we turn our heads to the right. What is
that?

Nothing, it is a virtual cabinet with some stick things.
When it is opened it is about an inch deep. Shoved
a few spices in there. It is being removed.
Now let's turn to the left.

These are the only cabinets in the whole kitchen for
dish storage. Spacious it is not.

You may have noticed the serving window and doorway
in the first photo. It leads to what I like to refer to as
the colossal waste of space. Let us proceed.

We are now in the colossal waste of space. It is a room
with a useless bar, windows that don't open and a hole
in the ceiling.

Now let's look through the serving window from the colossal
waste of space back into the kitchen.

I know, I know -
your jealous of my range. It's a natural reaction. The door
(which will be replaced with a real human sized door)
leads to a bathroom...which is also being gutted . I'll make sure
to post a couple of those photos before demolition.

Sherman (my in-laws dog) is a only an extra in the next photo.
I really wanted to share the floor. Linoleum, green diamonds
even though there is not a speck of green any where else in
the room. It's peeling in almost every corner.

Ok. I'm sure you have had enough. Now think how I feel.
HARD ROCK MAPLE, GRANITE, STAINLESS, CERAMIC
OR BUST!!
