A Random Observation

I worked late last night and was pleasantly surprised when I
walked in at 8:30, to my darling husband preparing a
meal. Of course the grill was involved, but nonetheless it
was still a meal. Steak kabobs with homegrown tomatoes
and peppers (thanks mom!) marinated in whatever delectable
concoction he created, to be served on a bed of whole grain
couscous.

I usually wear the apron. And Matt is never slow to
compliment my skill and aptitude in the kitchen (thanks
babe!). But a little thing I've noticed...when men do their own
cooking it is as if they have never tasted anything remotely
as delicious as their creation. I think that is so funny. Even my
best dishes still have room for improvement and I always
make mental notes of the same. Not men. We might as well
have been eating at the French Laundry last night. I think it
is so sweet and innocent and I am going to try and capture a
little more of it in my own day to day meal preparation.

Be less critical...enjoy what you prepare and create!

Putting Down Roots

It's undeniably what we're doing. Matt
"hung his shingle" a little over a year ago,
but it was pretty much figuratively speaking. He has
been working out of a spare bedroom in the house
which was trying for him at best.

We are proud to announce that those those
days are history!

The office building is only three blocks from our house
and one block from the courthouse. It has four offices,
two bathrooms, a big reception area and conference room.
It is pretty dated and we intend to hit it up with new carpet,
paint and tile in the next few weeks. Congratulations, Matt!

Matt's Favorite Holiday!

His name is MATTHEW CHRISTOPHER CONNOLLY for goodness sake! He has red hair and freckles. He is catholic. He loves Guinness. Need I say more?

I will be cooking corned beef and cabbage tonight at a friend's house...after we pub crawl for a bit. Should be a fun afternoon.

Progress Report

No kitchen photos to share because my camera is giving me
fits, but I wanted to share some random thoughts
regarding the remodel.

Every morning I wake up in the same episode of
This Old House (minus the new england accents),
thankfully it is one of my favorite shows. Matt doesn't share
my sentiments. He claims he is allergic to the dust, but I'm
pretty sure he is just allergic to the mess. He and Max have
relocated to the cottage and he is commuting to Traverse City.

Reggie and I are hanging tough. Reggie LOVES the mess and
the guys who come and work on the house. I have never seen
a dog fascinated by power tools before. He hangs with the guys
every morning for about 15 minutes before I leave for work and
he eats them up. When I walked in the kitchen this morning
his little nose was about three inches away from Jeremy, who was
cutting a 2x4 with a circular saw. Reggie's eyes were shut
because of all the dust it was kicking up, but he was
not at all scared of the saw. So funny.

We haven't run into any major problems yet. Electrician began
rewiring today and drywall is slated for Friday. We should be
able to lay tile early next week. Keep your fingers crossed!

I've attached a photo I took of Matt on the slopes a couple
of weeks ago. Only three weeks (give or take) left in
the ski season. It's been a good one. Matt took
home a ton of "gold medals" in his ski league. He says it
doesn't mean anything, but I'm proud of him.

Gotta run!
